The translational science spectrum represents each stage of research along the path from the biological basis of health and disease to interventions that improve the health of individuals and the public. The Institute of Translational Research (ITR) is home to Ochsner’s laboratory-based research. Our primary mission is to conduct original and innovative research in order to better understand the underlying causes of human diseases, with the ultimate goal of translating this knowledge into clinical applications that improve human health. The NIEHS Translational Research Framework involves a series of rings that represent five primary categories of translational research.
